Profile

Prof. Yada Professor
Faculty of Commerce, Kansai University

M.A., Ph.D. (Kobe University of Commerce)
As a graduate student, I developed my field experience with data mining working on the frontlines at several companies to apply information technologies to business, and conducting research into the strategic use of large-scale data and business applications for data mining. After completing a doctorate in 1997, I taught in the Department of Business Administration at Osaka Industrial University. In 2000, I joined the Faculty of Commerce at Kansai University.

My present research interests include data mining for service, and information strategy concerning data mining. I was part of the first team of Japanese researchers to publish in Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery, the premier international journal in the field of data mining. I have since played a leading role in research into data mining applications in Japan. My work appears in several other international journals (including Soft Computing and Decision Support Systems) and numerous conference proceedings. I have also been a guest editor of special issues of Information Science and participated in cutting-edge marketing research, presenting work at international meetings of the American Marketing Association (AMA). I have received many international and domestic awards from academic societies and conferences including the Distinguished Professor Award from Kansai University.

In addition to holding the post of director of the Data Science Laboratory, I also serve as the chair of Kansai University’s DSI (Data Mining and Service Science for Innovation) Program. I have previously been a visiting professor at Osaka University, visiting scholar at Columbia University, and chairman or committee member at several international conferences and workshops, including ICDM (IEEE International Conference on Data Mining) and technical committee chair of IEEE SMC (Systems, Man, and, Cybernetics Society).
